The Rockhound's Field Companion is an offline-first field logging and identification app for rock and mineral collectors. It is provided as a companion to the book "Master the Art of Rockhounding".
New accounts receive a 3-day free trial with full access to Pro features (AI photo identification, find map, PDF export and sharing, backup and restore). No card is required to start the trial and it does not renew into a charge automatically.
Logging finds, the identification wizard, the field guide and the gear checklist remain free after the trial ends.
A one-time payment of USD $49 unlocks Pro features permanently for your account. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.
"Lifetime" means for as long as the app is operated and available. Your license is tied to your account and works on any device you sign in to. Once verified, it is cached locally so Pro features keep working offline for up to 14 days without a connection.
Payments are handled by Stripe. Applicable sales tax, VAT or GST is calculated and collected at checkout and displayed before you confirm.
Your bank statement may show the payment processor's descriptor alongside our name.
If the app does not work as described, contact us within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. Because a 3-day trial is available before purchase, refunds outside that window are at our discretion.
Mineral suggestions — including AI photo identification — are educational estimates based on visual and physical properties. They are not a professional appraisal, assay or valuation. Always confirm with a qualified geologist before making financial or safety decisions.
You are solely responsible for your safety in the field and for complying with all laws, land access rules and collecting permits that apply where you dig. Some minerals are sharp, heavy, radioactive or contain toxic elements — handle with care.
We accept no liability for injury, loss, trespass or fines arising from use of the app.
Your field log is stored on your device. Clearing browser data, losing the device or uninstalling the browser will delete it. Use Backup regularly — we cannot recover local data for you.
Do not resell, redistribute or reverse engineer the app, or share your account to circumvent the license.
